Portable PhotoShop

Portable software is a class of software that is suitable for use on portable drives such as a USB (thumb) drive or iPod or Palm PDA with "drive mode", although any external hard drive could theoretically be used. The concept of carrying one's favored applications, utilities, and files on a portable drive for use on any computer is one which has evolved considerably in recent years. These kind of apparatus are becoming more and more popular as USB flash drives get cheaper and cheaper.
What makes an application portable? An application is considered portable if it fits the following criteria:
· It will execute without being formally installed onto a computer's permanent storage device, and can be stored on removable storage devices, such as USB flash drives, CDs and DVDs, which enables it to be used on multiple computers.
· Settings are stored with, and can be carried around with, the software (i.e., they are written to the removable device). If the registry is used to store settings, the application's configuration isn't portable, and must be set up on every PC on which it is to be used.
· It leaves a zero (or near-zero) "footprint" on any PC it's run on after being used (i.e., all temporary files/registry settings should be removed once the program has exited, and files created by the user can be saved directly to the same removable media on which the application is stored).
Once in a workshop I faced a problem. Even after my repeated reminders the organizers supplied me a computer which was not loaded with Photoshop . So from that day as a precaution I always keep a CD loaded with latest version of Photoshop whenever I go outside for a workshop. One of my software friends (Now In digital age is common that photographers have Software friends too) presented me a portable version of GIMP (a raster image processing software). It needed no installation and in seconds I was able to do my works on my computer. Then I wished that I must have a portable Photoshop. I searched the web to know how portable software is made and I got it. Sites such as
portablefreeware.com list a number of methods for making specific applications run on a flash drive. U3 is an emerging standard for making portable applications that run on flash drives. It requires a compatible device and for the application to be made with a few, simple standards. The beauty is that developers can make their existing applications U3 compatible with almost no extra work. You can also make portable software with the help of Thinstall. Thinstall enables ISVs and software companies to package their applications into a single self contained EXE that ensures the application runs conflict-free, and without requiring installation. Thinstall provides an application ‘sandbox’ which protects the local OS from modifications that could affect stability or security and also enables applications to be run safely from restricted user accounts without local installation.
Thinstall does this with no noticeable runtime performance impact or source code changes; the Thinstall Virtual OS technology component is less than 300K on disk and occupies only 1 MB RAM at runtime. Application Virtualization isolates only the applications and does not require another virtual machine instance

Now I always carry portable Photoshop with me. It has some exceptional features which I like vey much such as:
· Dont Need Activate NO NEED TO INSTALL
· Its Only 58 Mb . (yes it is so small)
· Only U will Click that’s all .
· Portable version.
· works fine with 128 MB RAM

One of my friends said that portable PhotoShop Cs3 it is available on internet too. Search you may find it. I now think why software manufacturers are not making all their software portable? What is need for waiting for hours for installation and activation of software? My computer is connected with internet. I have already installed a updated version of antivirus even then I usually format my hard disk and install a fresh window in about 2 to 3 months when I feel that my computer is getting slow. At this time portable software’s are very beneficial as I need not to expend too much time in installing them. Hope in future you are going to get a legal version of Photoshop from Adobe.
